Hurling – An Overview of the Game
The term Hurling refers to an ancient Celtic game. This game is often compared to sports like lacrosse and field hockey. It is typically one of the amateur contact sports. Hurling was once a popular way for training warriors for battles. The game of hurling has gained popularity throughout the world and it is widely famous and played in Ireland by both females and males.
This game requires a few equipment, for example, wooden sticks that the game is played with, balls, and hurling helmets. The stick is called “hurley” or in Irish tongue, camán. The hurley can be of any length and weight depending on the individual using it. There is a curved striking surface on the end of this stick. There may also be an electric tape wrapped around the stick’s handle to show which team it belongs to. The ball is small, white and it is called a “sliotar”. The ball is around 9 inches in circumference. The hurling helmet is an essential accessory for the safety of the players.
